About this project
This project participated in the competition organised by the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam for an art storage building of the Museum. The 29000 m2 building is a simple volume hiding its very valuable content with only one bold accent: a gold-cladded, arch-shaped entrance. The aim of the project was to create a large open space while simultaneously meeting other needs. These encompassed the climatic protection of art pieces that can't be exposed to daylight, the control of the temperature in certain zones, and minimal usage of energy to operate the art storage building. The façade system employs a material that reflects daylight while avoiding glare.
This material does not only change the building's appearance throughout the seasons, but also allows controlled amounts of light to enter into the storage space. Architect: LIAG Architecten.
