Chalet XL
After completing the Chalet XS design, a small, cozy and compact chalet, in addition to the overwhelmingly positive reactions, a few angry children's eyes stared at us: where is the children's room?? Which brought about the ironic realization that because of those little things we obviously had to think bigger. Chalet XS was designed as the ultimate base for fresh powder enthusiasts, with a focus purely on maximum snow fun, for adults. Partly because of this we realized again that winter sports are not only about getting the most out of the snow, but also the best in life; share this with family and friends. A logical conclusion following this realization was the design for Chalet XL. A modern, sustainable and beautiful winter sports chalet for the entire family, with enough space for the young generation of snow freaks, family and friends. This time a design with three floors, based on the natural flow of the mountain slope and thus blending into the environment.
The outside shell has been inspired by freshly prepared ski slopes, and the chosen material refers to the white and sparkly character of fresh snow. To top it off we engineered the latest sustainable technology into the design. On the roof there are PV (Photo-voltaic) solar panels and SWH (Solar Water Heating) panels. The walls, floors and roof are fitted with high end insulation and the windows are fitted with triple glazing (HR+++) for the best thermal insulation. A hybrid heat pump and floor heating provides the warmth needed with these cold outside temperatures, together with smart sensors the chalet XL is very energy efficient.
On the inside, the chalet building is divided in three zones. The first one is the common one, where everyone comes together to enjoy each other’s company. That is where the main entrance, ski room, kitchen, dining-, living room and the swimming pool are placed. The upper floor is a calm space where the sleeping rooms and bathrooms are and where one can step back when tranquility and privacy are needed. The lower floor is an adult retreat with sauna, chilling room and private terrace.
Even though the three floors have very different character they are united by a homogeneous design and the breathtaking alpine views which can be admired from every corner of the chalet. The result is a well designed sustainable family chalet with ski in and out.
