The Princess Máxima Centre is a unique, and at 45,000 m2 the biggest, child oncology center in Europe with the ambition to cure every child with cancer and to offer them best possible quality of life. Its architecture, with its distinctive interior and exterior, helps to achieve this goal. The multicoloured bridge connects the hospital building with the Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital next door. The two hospitals share the operation rooms and the intensive care unit and therefore the little patients use the bridge when they are at their most vulnerable. That is why it was especially important to come up with a design for this unique child oncology center which would cheer the kids up and relate to child’s aesthetics without being childish.
